Giving Information

The Friends of St Margaret Pattens is a Registered Charity number 10623600. The Friends was established to promote the restoration, preservation and continued opening, for all to enjoy, of this beautiful Wren designed church of St Margaret Pattens.

The Friends was established with the aim of supporting the church in a non-religious way to preserve the building for future generations, help to finance improvements and to enable the building to be kept open during the day to allow everyone to enjoy the tranquillity and restfulness of the building.

The Friends are very keen to promote local involvement in the church either through education (the teaching of music, piano and organ), singing in the choir, participation in, for instance yoga or pilates classes, or involvement with the two Livery Companies.

The church is supported by both the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers and the Worshipful Company of Pattemakers who in ancient times practiced their respective professions in the area surrounding the church.

All gifts to the Friends however large or small are much valued and enable us to continue our work into the future. We would like to think that the generations to come will be able to savour the peace and tranquillity of the church and marvel at the design by Sir Christopher Wren and be aware that a church has stood on this site since 1067.

There are many ways to remember the Friends of St Margaret Pattens in your Will and we briefly detail three of them below

What types of Gift can I Give?

Residuary Gift: This is a share of your estate flowing payment of all debts and taxes and can include property, investments and cash.

Pecuniary Gift: A straight forwards cash or monetary gift to the charity. This can be included as a back-up position in case your prime beneficiary dies before you.

Specific Grant: This is where a particular item or collection of items can be gifted to the charity.

Leaving a share of your estate to the Friends is an easy way to remember a cause/building which was precious to you during your lifetime after friends and relatives have been fully provided for. If you decide to leave a gift it is essential to include our full name to ensure that your gift reaches us.

Tax Exemption

Any gift to the Friends (as a qualifying charity) will be exempt from Inheritance Tax whether this is a lifetime gift or a gift in your will.

Lifetime Gifts and Other Donations

If you wish you can make a donation during your lifetime so that you can see the effect of your gift. The charity welcomes gifts towards specific projects and it is possible to donate towards, for example the restoration of the “listed” organ to restore it to its former glory and make it sound for another fifty years. There are a number of tax efficient ways in which the value of a lifetime gift can be enhanced, such as using Gift Aid; a gift aided contribution is worth an extra 25p in every pound to the charity and this ensures that your donation is used to the best possible effect.
